Beavers
Beavers are the youngest section of the UK Scout movement, welcoming boys and girls from six to eight years old. It is often their first introduction to Scouting, providing a friendly and enjoyable environment where children can learn new skills, gain confidence and, most importantly, have fun with friends.
Inviting children around 6 to 8 years old, the Winterslow group meet regularly, usually once a week. Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, worn with a group neckerchief or scarf, Beavers take part in a wide variety of activities designed to encourage curiosity, teamwork and independence. Meetings might include games, crafts, painting, simple cooking, challenges, stories and activities that introduce children to the world around them.
The outdoors plays an important part in the Beaver experience. Children are encouraged to explore nature, discover wildlife and enjoy the freedom of outdoor play. They may take part in walks, treasure hunts, outdoor games and simple pioneering activities, while occasional visits and trips provide opportunities to experience places and activities beyond their usual meeting place.
Above all, Beavers is about friendship, fun and discovery. Through a mixture of play, adventure and practical activities, children are encouraged to try new things, help one another and develop skills that will remain with them as they grow. When they reach the age of eight, Beavers can progress to the next section of the Scout movement, Cubs, taking with them the friendships, experiences and confidence they have gained in Beavers.
